Preparing for the Next Batch

St. Peter's Seminary is expecting a bigger batch for academic year 2012. Some 16 to 18 seminarians are being awaited to come on 25 May 2012, the opening day.

In view of this, Fr. Tugs is busy this summer supervising the expansion of some portions of the house in order to accommodate more people. Renovations include the extension of the dining area and insulation of its ceiling; extension of the back corridor connecting the wash area; creation of a passageway from the dormitory to the bathrooms; adding more beds and cabinets; and converting the gym and fitness room to a Recreation Hall. Meanwhile the gym equipment is now moved to the Clergy house for the priests' use.

This year, Father Rector is also planning to make the classroom an audiovisual place by putting up a 42-inch LCD in lieu of the whiteboards. "Teaching in digital mode is expected to increase the classroom input by more than double," he says. "It is also expected to increase the attention span and interest of the students because of the audiovisual part. Since the classroom is wi-fi connected, a teacher will have hundreds of ways of teaching though powerpoint presentations, Youtube videos, and film showing."

Anyone who is interested to donate? Please get in touch with Father Rector.

Advent Retreat

This year's seminarians are lucky to have their 3-day retreat in Vigan City.

After the 30-day retreat of the ICST SFY seminarians under the directorship of Fr. Atong de Guzman in Teng-ab, Bontoc, he agreed to bring the St. Peter's Seminarians to ICST Vigan for a 3-day Advent retreat which he himself directed. This is Fr. Atong's way of thanking the Apostolic Vicariate for lending its retreat houses to Vigan seminarians for five years now.

After the retreat, he even treated our seminarians around Vigan in restaurant and tourist spots.

Thanks a lot, Fr. Atong!

New Academic Scheme

This schoolyear Saint Peter's Seminary is adopting the trimestral scheme for academic learning. The schoolyear wil be divided into three periods: First Trimester (June to August); Second Trimester (September to November); Third Trimester (December to March). Between trimesters are exposure trips, midyear retreat, and other extra-curricular programs to augment the classroom experiences.

This scheme will also allow us to add new subjects and a few electives that can be taught within the given time frame of one trimester. This year we are teaching French, Decorum, Sociology and Computer studies to add to the former list of subjects that the seminarians normally take.

The curriculum of seminary program includes studies in Latin, English, Speech, Introduction to the Scriptures, Introduction to Philosophy, Liturgy, Catechism, and Mathematics.
